to their calling. These statements have been demonstrated in longitudinal studies. Williamson and Sandage (2009) conducted seven longitudinal studies of seminary students in their graduate level education. They found that
seminary students demonstrated greater spiritual openness, greater spiritual well-being, and more spiritual activity over time in the seminary (Williamson and Sandage, 209). In other words, students demonstrated these aspects more
so with each year of seminary education. One graduate from seminary and one seminarian student affirmed these conclusions. The student who is still attending Princeton Seminary wrote that he has
grown spiritually during his education (Drury, 2006). This student also stated that at seminary, he learned how to initiate his own growth in his spiritual life and believes he will
be able to initiate spiritual growth in others when he leaves seminary (Drury, 2006). A woman who completed her seminary education provided some interesting insight into spirituality and being
prepared to be an assistant pastor or pastor. This is a second career for her so she has a vast amount of life experiences, including some very low spots in
her life (Hagler, 2009). She believes her experience in conjunction with her theological studies is what gives her an advantage to work with people as a pastor (Hagler, 2009). She
also believes that it is essential to continue to grow spiritually during and after seminary (Hagler, 2009). One of the challenges clergy face today is the interest in spiritual growth
and development. In fact, this term has become more of a fad than a truism because it is the in thing to discuss. But, the interest is also connected to
