Racism is an unfortunate component of far too many of our societal interactions. Throughout history there has been one example after another of one race attempting to
dominate or even to exterminate the other. The American institution of slavery is one of the most obvious examples of racism but there are many other equally valid examples
as well. Police brutality is one of these examples. Some contend that there is an apparent correlation between the use of force by police and racism. Whether
or not this is actually the case, Loftin et. al. (2003) emphasizes that according it must be acknowledged that:
"the perception that police devalue the lives of some citizens may reduce citizen cooperation in reporting crime or assisting police in investigations and may generally degrade
the quality of justice" This contention was previously presented in the literature by Culin and
Cao (1996). It demands that the relationship between race and use of force be more thoroughly investigated. While the prevalence of the
association between racism and the use of force by police is a highly debated topic, there are instances where such an association seems apparent. This is not surprising given
that racism presents itself into the very structure and function of our society. Sometimes it is quite overt but sometimes it is more symbolic in its manifestation. Regardless
