ethics in a variety of ways. This is most obviously seen through the lens of the utilitarian view of ethics, which deals primarily with a method known as the "utilitarian
calculus", by which the ethical value of actions is determined by a measurement of that actions utility in increasing happiness and exacting good effects for the largest possible number of
people (Andre & Velasquez, 2010). This paragraph helps the student analyze Waters actions from the utilitarian perspective. For instance, consider Waters actions, overall. The case study indicates that Waters
is a heavily selfish individual, that he seems to take actions motivated purely by his own desire to profit, and that he frequently makes decisions at the expense of the
organization (such as renting a horse stable and billing it to the company). According to utilitarian calculus, these actions are unethical because they devalue the many (the entire organization of
Wisson) for the benefit of the few (in this case, just Waters) (Andre & Velasquez, 2010). Waters personal willingness to engage in such actions helps to establish the conditions of
unethical practices at the organizational level. By the same token, the willingness of the two fragrance companies to pay kickbacks to Waters in exchange for being given a steady supply
