similar in dictating fashion, attitude and lifestyle choices. The obvious notion that mass media controls everyone is something that is sometimes ignored, but a student writing on this subject
can provide examples of how people are controlled, and it is not limited to adolescence. Middle aged people are looking younger as new products are advertised as well as new
medical techniques to make them look and feel as if they are not really getting older. Much of the beauty attitudes conveyed by media is designed to make one more
desirable but they are often disguised as ways to improve health. Viagra for example is a drug that no one really needs, but might make a man more attractive to
the opposite sex. Commercials for diet aids reinforce the notion that all women should be pencil thin, and if they are not, self-acceptance is a far second to fulfill
their desire to be attractive. Victorias Secret accentuates the commercialization of sex that prompts people to not only spend needed funds on underwear, but prods them into plastic surgery and
dangerous dieting techniques. Aside from that, people are expected to be able to consume the advertised junk foods and look good too. The proof is in the fact that many
people are overweight but long to be thin. Yet, the models body is virtually impossible to achieve. Genetics or extreme, unhealthy dieting can render one a twig, but short of
those methods, there are few things that can turn a voluptuous woman into a wide eyed, woman-child as seen in the form of a Kate Moss for example. Perhaps
