Essay / Research Paper Abstract
5 pages in length. Research is the lifeblood of any policy; without the benefit of such examination, the foundation of policymaking would be suspect and wholly inaccurate. However, the seemingly cut-and-dried relationship between communication research and communication policy is anything but; the extent to which bias, personal agenda and ineptitude harmfully impact policy outcome is, according to Halloran, both grand and far-reaching. research and communication policy is anything but; the extent to which bias, personal agenda and ineptitude harmfully impact policy outcome, according to Halloran, is both grand and far-reaching.
A particularly important consideration with regard to the governing factors of research is determining the researchers perspective and if any bias exists, inasmuch as Halloran
implies there is no way of abolishing - or fully controlling - observer bias within the context of research approaches. By the same token, the concept of reliability deals
with whether or not the instrument can measure the same trait consistently upon repeated measurements, while validity deals with whether the instrument is truly measuring the specific trait that it
is supposed to measure (Greenhalgh 740). To better understand the research process as it relates to communication research and communication policy, it is
imperative for the student to first comprehend the how the process works. The job of developing a statistical equation can be quite complex, inasmuch as there has to be
some idea of the nature of the relationship between each of the independent variables and the dependent variable. The tests of hypotheses are called parametric tests, inasmuch as they
test the value of a population parameter. To begin, there needs to be a hypothesis about the value of a parameter, which, in this case, would be the null
hypothesis. This null hypothesis specifies that the value of a parameter interest is equal to some value. The strength of such a test would be to determine whether
or not the evidence provided by the sample would suffice to establish that the null hypothesis is not true. If there were enough such evidence, then there would be
