is not simple, but it seems as if it does go toward the affirmative. Indeed, globalization is equated with westernization largely because the west is dominant. Hence, with an increasingly
smaller world, western ways are often favored because they have been viewed as more successful than other modes of living. It is because of this that Indian culture is eroding,
and thus, globalization is detrimental. Of course, the change is subtle, but the global intrusion is quite obvious. Another point is that while globalization is considered a panacea by some,
it has not affected India in a positive way. Butt points out that while it seems as if globalization is good for India, people fail to point out that the
growth is uneven (26). In many ways, while some parts of India are being westernized, others are not. These other, larger rural regions remain rather backward and impoverished (Butt 26).
Would it be better if the entire country enjoyed the fruits of westernization or globalization? It might be, but that is speculative. In a large portion of the world, globalization
does mean westernization and with it comes problems. Many complain that morality has changed. Western ways and pop culture has invaded nations that had been deemed traditional. Many people around
the world do not like American culture and it is hard to argue that this newfangled cultural value system is really something positive. Even Americans complain that the current popular
culture has deteriorated morality and decency. In bringing up the issue of morality, it should be said that there is some proof that in India, there is a problem with
prostitution and AIDS. For example, Mumbai is said to have thirty red light districts (Dyer, Marcelo and White 15). Some experts believe that India is a time bomb and soon,
