(1996) provides that fossils are formed in any way that preserves. This includes freezing, as in the Ice Age, where something as large as a wooly mammoth has been discovered
with skin, fur, and food still in mouth and stomach, an obvious sign that the animal was frozen during a catastrophic climatic freeze. Tar pits and bogs, as well as
volcanic ash have been found to preserve human and animal remains in perfect condition, so that soft tissues as well as bone are preserved.
Such discoveries are part of the fossil record. However, aging of fossils based on existing published data is becoming confusing and misleading, according to experts. This is a
topic of hot controversy because there are so many factors that go into aging individual discoveries, including geographical location considerations and also conflicting definitions for archival terminology.
Background Fossils are formed by deposits of debris of insect, animal, plant and human life on rock through
the nature of living. Sediments deposits pile up layer upon layer and are submitted to the pressure under weight. Most fossils are formed by imprinting the carbonized form of the
dead insect, plant or animal onto the surface of stone or by leaving behind some mineral deposits that get compressed into new stone, as in fossil fuels. A walk in
the desert will turn up dried animal bones, and there are cases where human remains have been mummified in dry, arid countries. Bogs and tar have turned up other remains
preserved perfectly without exposure to sun. Another common method is for insects to get caught in tree gum, which over time turns into amber.
