woman who is ultimately obsessed with having more than she has, and she essentially pays the price for having such self absorbed desires. "She suffered endlessly, feeling herself born for
every delicacy and luxury" (Maupassant). The following paper examines the characters position, how it happened (the event in the story), what could have been differently, and what this particular writer/researcher
would have done in the characters place. How Did It Happen?: The Necklace The character in the story is Mathilde and, as mentioned, she is a woman who
is obsessed with having more in her life, having more possessions and being more wealthy than she is. She is invited to a party with her husband and borrows a
necklace from a wealthy friend. She thinks this necklace is made from diamonds when in fact it is all but worthless. What happens is that she loses the necklace and
spends much of the rest of her life working off the cost so she can replace it. She then finds, after she has become incredibly poor and lived a life
that is less than glamorous, that the necklace was not real diamonds in the first place. It is clear that, morally speaking, the event happened because Mathilde was very greedy
and wanted more than she had. The result was that she ended up with less than she had. If Mathilde had immediately told her friend that she lost the
necklace she would have found out that it was worthless and then she wouldnt have spent years working off the money to replace it. If she had not been so
proud she would have come out a lot better in the end. But, if that were the case she would likely have ended up in some other financial situation for
