an exorbitant amount of money. Even on a daily basis, supermarkets are filled with a variety of foods to fulfill dietetic and aesthetic desires as well as to satisfy finicky
taste buds. Someone who wants to live a "green" life can find satisfying choices in the supermarket as well. Fresh fruits are grown organically for example and many foods are
not wrapped in disposable plastic. Supermarkets even sell reusable plastic bags. Many businesses today are ecologically minded and cater to specific tastes as well. In the twenty-first century, food consumption-purchase,
preparation, display-are filled with choices. Yet, questions arise. In examining the world and the way in which people select foods, what prompts one individual to choose a particular type? The
answer to the problem is not completely clear. Someone from an Italian family may have a yen for Chinese food or an individual from a Vietnamese family may frequent McDonalds.
At the same time, for the most part, people who have grown up in a family with an ethnic attachment will gravitate towards foods that are related to that particular
category. They often refer to it as comfort foods and it comes in many varieties. For example, someone from a Chinese family may grow up learning how to cook authentic
Chinese fare and crave stir fry vegetables. Another individual who grew up in a Jewish family may learn how to make potato latkes and prepare such a family meal once
in awhile. Food choices will be attached to heritage, but there are other factors involved as well. Day after day, people make choices based on a number of things. Some
people are health conscious and even for those who are not, there are outside influences. People may be attracted to "green" labels or by their physicians nudge. They may purchase
