research on peripheral activities. Hourly pay for the most part is only tied to productivity slightly and so, it seems that less tangible offerings are aligned with productivity. People do
like to know that they are doing a good job and sometimes, a compliment can go a long way to prompting increased production. Productivity is something difficult to measure as
tied to incentives. This is because motivation is a complicated subject. Even if an hourly plan is implemented, there is no telling whether or not it worked, or some other
activity entered the equation. In fact, today, educators throw up their hands when they find their students not motivated. They claim that motivation is something that comes from within, and
that external motivating forces are irrelevant. Of course, every business mogul knows that this is just not true. Indeed, there are many motivators in the business world. Many incentives do
happen to be monetary and these often do work well. However, whether or not hourly incentives are prudent is unclear. Still, money-whether increased hourly pay or in another form, can
