Practitioners in all specialties and at all levels can update patient records quickly and easily. All data contained in the database can be duplicated quickly in as many total sets as necessary to ensure data integrity in the case of a data-destroying event when copies are stored at remote locations. Electronic billing ensures more uniform billing practices, reducing the risk of failing to bill for procedures or change in diagnosis group membership (Szolovits, 2002). Present and Future Benefits In addition to these operational benefits, the state in which databases exist today enable organizations to use the data contained within them for future benefit as well as historical record. As example, full conversion of patient records to electronic media enables a search of the entire database.
