overall quality of care delivered by community health nurses (CHNs) is providing end-of-life care that is holistic and congruent with the concepts of physical, psychological, social and spiritual care designed
to relieve suffering and improve quality of life for terminally ill patients and their families. The following review of literature investigates ways in which community health nursing hospice care is
supported. Hayden (2011) identifies spirituality as an important component of CHN hospice care, as spirituality provides a significant resource for people coping with a terminal prognosis. This author differentiates
between religion and spirituality, pointing out that while these terms are often used interchangeably, spirituality is a broader premise than religion, but also arguing that the benefits of religious belief
should not be dismissed, based assumptions that derive from the increasing secularization of Western society. The topics of how to conceptualize spirituality, define spiritual care, and undertake a spiritual
assessment are then discussed. Additionally subtopics are also enlightening and the section that addresses spiritual care in the community is particularly applicable to the practice of community health nursing. This
