gained far more attention than prior to that date. Todays stadium security systems are much more sophisticated than any of the past.
Part of the reason is that there is truth in the old clich?, "Necessity is the mother of invention," while technological advances and simple innovation contribute to security system development
as well. Systems Integration Touted as the largest such facility in the United Kingdom at the time of its construction, Millennium Stadium in
Cardiff boasts some of the most advanced security measures and surveillances in use today. Provided by Honeywell, the system cost about $3.9 million and included provision for fire detection,
security and close-circuit television, as well as for public address voice alarm and a system for the hearing impaired. It also provides communications capabilities for "distribution of radio, television,
data and telephone" (Millennium Stadium). Security is managed with a "Honeywell Excel Security Manager (XSM) with 70 zones" (Millennium Stadium), and all security-related
systems are interconnected on a single network. The Honeywell network consists of a "structured cabling system for voice and data, with a fibre-optic backbone interconnecting 15 communications rooms within
