The American Honda Motor Co., located in Torrance, California, is a subsidiary of Honda Motor Company and is the North American headquarters for Honda (Williams, American, 2008). Honda offers numerous different models of its auto vehicles, including the Civic, Accord, CR-V, Element and Ridgeline (Williams, Honda, 2008). The company offers hybrid versions of the Civic and Accord (Williams, Honda, 2008). In addition to motorcycles, the company manufactures watercraft, ATVs and many different power products for both commercial and individual uses, such as lawnmowers and portable generators (Williams, Honda, 2008). Honda opened its first manufacturing plant in North America in 1979 (American Honda Motor Co., 2008) but the companys products have been in the country for decades longer. The North American operation employees 25,000 Americans and the company has 600 domestic suppliers, which increase the employment generated by Honda (American Honda Motor Co., 2008). Both worldwide and in North America, Hondas main competitors are Toyota, Nissan, Ford Motor and General Motors (Williams, Honda, 2008). The North American subsidiary works in collaboration with about 20 manufacturing plants along with research and development and design centers in the U.S. (Williams, American, 2008). Honda has a true global presence. The corporation has operations in Japan, China, North America, South America, Asia, Oceania, Europe, Africa, and the Middle East (Honda, Global, 2008). Each area hosts research and development and design centers as well as manufacturing centers (Honda, Global, 2008). The companys goal is to expand business in each region by being flexible enough to meet local demands (Honda, Global, 2008).
