the population aged 50 and above. People of middle age and older are likely to be experiencing the physical problems that come with aging; some will also be having emotional
and mental difficulties as well. Add this to the stress of being homeless and the situation becomes truly traumatic. This paper discusses the problem in general and the needs of
this population segment in particular. Discussion First of all, its difficult to find accurate statistics on this or any other population labeled as homeless, because - obviously - there is
no way to locate people for an accurate survey. Nor is there any way to tell how big the population is, since members of this class may die, move away,
enter some sort of long term care or otherwise move out of the classification. If they do there is no way to track them. But having said that, its also
true that there is some literature on the phenomenon, and there appears to be a growing awareness of the problem. In a study published in 2006, Hahn, Kushel, Bangsberg, Riley
and Moss examined precisely the problem of homelessness in a study that tracked 10-year homeless trends in San Francisco. Among the things they measured was the percentage of older homeless.
