the Mayors Homelessness Committee, came up with a plan to provide services for the homeless ("National Alliance to End Homelessness"). The ten year plan implemented includes preventative measures, interim housing
and solutions in the form of permanent housing as well ("National Alliance to End Homelessness"). It is a fine solution for a problem that exists in this locale, but homelessness
as a problem of social justice is something that exists everywhere. It is a problem of modern society. Homelessness is something that has come about in recent years, but
has been with the nation always. There have in fact always been people who have not had the wherewithal to obtain suitable and permanent shelter. At the same time, homelessness
was not a problem in earlier decades. Things are different today. While different in terms of how the homeless are viewed and how they live, it seems that the
causes of homelessness are probably different as well. One study suggests that the lack of affordable housing is the primary reason for the condition today (Grzeskowiak 22). It makes sense
as it seems that rents are rising at an alarming rate while salaries stay in the same range. An individual without access to affordable shelter will find that they are
drifting from place to place. Some end up living on the streets. Others do not mind the shelters. Still others are fortunate to have friends or relatives that will allow
them to stay in their homes temporarily. At the same time, without a place one can claim as his or her own, life is difficult. Homelessness is a problem related
