Giltman 9/2010 Please For decades now, the debate as to whether home schooling is better than traditional schooling is carrying on. There is no question that both forms of schooling have their advantages and disadvantages. For example, homeschoolers have the luxury of not only learning in the confines of their home but they can also take more time studying the subjects they enjoy. On the other hand, those students who attend traditional school are receiving a state- or country-approved education. Obviously, they all develop at different rates, but at least this way the teachers as well as the school system know if a student is ahead or behind the curriculum and if he or she needs additional help. For homeschoolers, this is much harder to track. Nevertheless, this essay will further contrast the two forms of schooling while demonstrating why traditional schooling is a much better option for most students because they are exposed to other students, they receive the socialization they need and they are better equipped to keep up with the curriculum. As opposed to homeschoolers, students in a traditional classroom setting are exposed to other students which can be extremely beneficial to their self esteem and their overall educational development. They also have the opportunity to learn alongside other children who are the same age as them (Articles Base, 2008).
