a narrative text on how to work with parents, it provides information on such diverse topics as a historical look at families, educational laws in terms of parental rights, family
violence, poverty, school violence and school choice. The text includes a chapter devoted to fatherhood. The content provides a great deal of information on how to develop positive relationships between
teachers and parents. It offers ideas for the many different family structures that are found in todays society, including, such as ethnic and racial diversity, religious diversity, gay and lesbian
families and even families where a grandparent has custody of the children. While the text does not provide very lengthy narratives on the many different types of families, it does
point out that they exist. It also points out that only 31 percent of families fit the traditional definition of an intact family. Authors included in this text discuss
an issue that is not always found in books about home-school relationships - violence in the family, including domestic violence and child abuse and neglect, including statistical data. The author
also provides tips and cues for identifying potential child abuse and neglect. The author who discusses Parent-Teacher Communication asks: "Whos Talking?" Its a good question because it reminds the
teacher that to develop a successful relationship, the parent needs to feel like an equal. So often, teachers do an overwhelming majority of the talking when meeting with parents. There
