This is a very small two-person business comprised of the owner and an assistant. Among other things, the assistant completes the paperwork for the transactions, such as settlement. The owner does everything else. The company needs to expand, specifically in the sales area. The company pays commission-only with no base salary. The owner wants to establish a productive corporate culture that is based on customer service. This is an orientation that can give the company a strong competitive advantage in this highly competitive industry in these unstable economic times. The corporate culture should incorporate recruiting and retention policies and strategies. For personnel to have a focus on customer satisfaction, they must first be highly motivated and highly skilled. These practices become part of the corporate culture. Analysis Deliberately establishing a specific type of company culture requires persistence, time and work. Whether recognized or not, there is always a corporate culture, no matter what the organizations business is and no matter how big or small it is. Corporate culture is about how things get done in the organization. It includes all the written and unwritten policies and procedures. It is historical and traditional and thus, it provides a feeling of safety for employees. Culture goes beyond just the policies and rules, though, to the psychological life of the organization, it incorporates the "values, attitudes and behaviors of employees" (Stanley 2007, p. 29).
