the District of Columbia, Canada, Puerto Rico and Mexico (Anderson). As a company, Home Depot offers more than 45,000 items, although they might not all be stocked in every store
(Anderson). Since the focus is on the do-it-yourselfer, the stores carry a wide variety of items that include lumber, different kinds of flooring, appliances, hardware, plumbing supplies, paint, a garden
nursery, and many more items (Anderson). It divested one of its subsidiaries, HD Supply in 2007 in response to an outcry from shareholders (Anderson). The year before, however, Home
Depot acquired Hughes Supply company, which focuses on the business-to-business trade, such as contractors (Do-it-Yourself Retailing). This acquisition, which greatly expands Home Depots consumer base, doubled Home Depots size with
expected revenue at $12 billion (Do-it-Yourself Retailing). It also acquired Chem-Dry which the largest carpet and upholstery cleaning company in the world (Do-it-Yourself Retailing). Again, this expands the customer base
and diversifies the company even more so. These are all strengths, particularly the ability of Home Depot to complete these deals in their growth goals. Since the carpet and upholstery
cleaning industry is so fragmented, Home Depots reputation may well bring more structure and stability to that industry. Both Chem-Dry and Hughes Supply allow Home Depot to enter into the
