he seems to "resonates with the teen experience" (Anonymous Catcher in the Rye www.rkpuma.com/catcher.htm). Holden is a young man trying to discover himself and trying to further define who
he is and where he wants to go. But, at the same time he is a young man who is incredibly innocent to what life is all about. We
can often see Holden as a whiny individual who takes nothing to heart, takes the advice of no individual, and seems bent on just being a pessimist in terms of
life. He has many people who subtly, and aggressively, try to help him along his journey, offering him advice and wisdom and preparing him for a world that he is
essentially too innocent to understand. In each of these individuals we have someone who is actually a reflection of who Holden could be once that innocence is gone. Each individual
possesses qualities that are a part of reality, that are demonstrating what life is like when innocence is gone. And in each of these characters we find someone that is
trying to show Holden how to survive once that innocence is gone. In better understanding how Holden is innocent we present an examination of Holden and his relationship to Mr.
Antolini, a man who is not innocent. In presenting this examination we will illustrate how Holden is innocent in the face of experience and wisdom. Innocence, Holden, and
Mr. Antolini Mr. Antolini was one of Holdens teachers. He teaches English and Holden has always respected him, feeling he could always turn to him if he needed help. Up
