Essay / Research Paper Abstract
An 8 page analysis of various developmental options available to a fictional industrial entity. The project entails the establishment of a commercial hog farm which will house four-thousand hogs. Although the environmental consequences could be grave, proper site selection and the addition of manmade wetlands to buffer the project and serve as a point of discharge for treated waste proves to be of environmental and economic benefit. Bibliography lists 6 sources.

NATSCO is considering the construction of a large-scale hog farm in Strathroy, Ontario, near the Sydenham River. Maximum capacity of this operation will be four-thousand hogs.
The purpose of this report will be to explore the potential environmental impacts of such an operation and the measures which can be taken to minimize those impacts.
Specific attention will be paid to making the project a value to the surrounding ecosystem rather than a detriment. Numerous considerations go into
the planning of a project of the scale being proposed. The first and foremost, from an environmental standpoint, is a detailed consideration of the type of habitat being disrupted.
Fortunately, NATSCO has the ability to require lands of no direct environmental consequence for the actual construction of this project. These lands consist of old agriculture fields, fields
which long ago were denuded of any sort of native vegetation and fauna. From a cost/benefit standpoint these lands serve as an ideal location. When compared costwise to
more remote choices of locations, they provide all of the infrastructural considerations needed to operate our proposed project. Water is available on site as is electricity. The site
is of added attraction in that it is intersected by a major highway and thus transportation concerns are adequately addressed, an address which was not made for other locations which
have been considered. While the lands falling within the developmental swath are economically advantageous for development and present no direct ecological concerns, the
areas surrounding these lands do present some concern. Any project of the type being considered will generate waste, waste which after being sufficiently treated must be discharged at some
