work, Hitlers Army, the author sets out to understand why people followed Hitler, and the ideals, as they did. The following paper offers a report on this book. Hitlers
Army by Omer Bartov In the introduction of the work the author asks many questions and then ultimately states, "Was the Wehrmacht Hitlers
army?" (Bartov, 1992; 3). This sets the foundation, or the thesis, of the work as the author will go about delving into personal letters, papers, and discussions about this army
and the evolution of Hitlers arm. This is seen as the author illustrates the following in relationship to laying this foundation: "The following pages will argue that the only way
to approach this question is by careful anatomy of the German army. This will be done by proposing four theses on the war experience, social organization, motivation, and perception of
reality of Germanys soldiers. By examining the attitudes of both the higher and the lower echelons of the army, this book will attempt to gage the degree to which the
