persecuting Jews because, in their mind, the Jews were responsible for killing Jesus Christ ("Persecution of the Jews," 2006). This is a concept that is commonly spouted by bigots in society today. They do not consider that Jesus was Jewish himself. The idea that Jews are responsible for the death of Jesus is a misnomer. However, some have interpreted Mathew 27 to include a statement that suggests Jews are responsible and should pay the price for it ("Persecution of the Jews," 2006). Again, this is a misinterpretation. Yet, this premise had become a common notion and it persisted for centuries, something that would create more areas of persecution ("Persecution of the Jews," 2006). For example, prior to the fourteenth century Jewish Merchants were burned alive by Catholics who moved into Cologne for example ("Persecution of the Jews," 2006). People even blamed the Plague on Jews ("Persecution of the Jews," 2006). The hostility was historically significant at the time when Constantine was in charge (Browning, 2004). And as the twentieth century unfolded, long before the Second World War, countries like France and Germany were not kind to Jews. One can see that the historical roots of hatred for this group of people is long and so there had been a religious bias after the advent of Christianity. Social animosity would grow as these two religious groups were seemingly at odds. It should also be said that while Judaism is a religion, Hitler wanted to create a master race and get rid of the Jews completely.
