Land, that would become the United States, was that of adventurers for the most part as they came to find new resources and new avenues of pursuit for Great Britain.
It became a place to find land, a new start, and a sense of identity for a new people seeking to leave behind the restrictive nature of Great Britain. This,
of course, led to the Revolution which separated the new land from Great Britain forever in political respects. Founding: This was essentially the process of developing the nation, with new
independence, in a direction that was unique, free, and open to growth and new ideals. It was the childhood of the United States and established the United States as a
power of the world in relationship to economic wealth and prosperity. Civil War and Reconstruction: The United States had grown powerful but primarily on the backs of slaves. The
South was in possession of the economic power of agriculture because of slaves and they chose to secede from the union which the federal government did not want. A Civil
War broke out and slavery was abolished, leaving a land that was need of reconstruction. The nation did not really pull through the Civil War, or find true reconstruction, in
a completely positive way but the nation attempted to heal its wounds regardless. Industrialism and Progressivism: Industry allowed the nation to begin to prosper, differently than in times prior
to the Civil War, and progress. It was a time when the United States was essentially fairly isolated, staying out of the problems of the rest of the world most
of the time, and a time when the nation grew in the aftermath of Civil War and reconstruction. With the First World War the United States became more globally involved.
