nots and wanting to correct the difficulty. Perhaps Marxs idealism stems from his own background and his inability to properly handle finances. He had his own problems in that area
and had other grudges as well. But while Marx did have personal gripes, his ideas were truly revolutionary and he had the ability to see what was happening and provide
for society something significant, which was a new perspective. Karl Marx not only wrote about how things really were, but made suggestions and predicted how things would be. In
fact, his philosophy of communism is replete with specifics that explain how to effect a utopian society in a step by step format. This "How to" manual had never quite
been followed to the letter, which suggests that there may have been a flaw in his theory, but communism was by no means his only idea. Karl Marx also had
a philosophy of history. That philosophy is known as historical materialism. While Marx can claim authorship to the theory of historical materialism, many who have come after him have
used his ideas as a springboard for their own. Marxs work which focuses primarily on this concept is Contribution of the Critique of Political Economy which was published in
1859 (McLeish, 1993, p. 348). The core belief to come from this book is that progress is made in human history, which is characterized by the humans tendency to try
