of the history of the work, the inspiration or influence behind the work. The following paper examines some of the history of Dantes infamous work. Historical Consideration of
Dantes Inferno In looking at the historical context of this work it is important to first note something of Dantes life in order to better understand who he was and
why he wrote the work. "Dante Alighieri was born into a Florentine family of noble ancestry. Little is known about Dantes childhood" but his mother died when he was young
and his father "made his living by money-lending and renting of property" (Books and Writers, 2008). He remarried while Dante was still a child and then died prior to Dante
reaching his manhood (Books and Writers, 2008). It was "Brunetto Latini, a man of letters and a politician" who would become Dantes father figure although he was also a character
in Dantes Hell, residing in the 7th circle with "those who were guilty of violence against nature - sodomy" (Books and Writers, 2008).
He was relatively well educated, in both Christian and classical literature (Books and Writers, 2008). In addition, it is perhaps important to note that he loved a woman he would
never marry and upon her death he mourned and yet found great solace in creating poems in her memory and in reading the writings of many individuals, including and especially
