the world embrace their old historic buildings and rarely tear them down, the United States seems to almost make a habit of getting rid of the old and replacing with
the new on a very regular basis. This is why historic preservation organizations and restoration efforts are perhaps so complex and necessary. Two cities which possess an incredible amount of
history and architectural significance are Chicago and Philadelphia. The following paper examines the significance of restoration in these cities, ordinances involved with restoration, and a discussion of two particular buildings,
or districts, in restoration development. Chicago and Philadelphia Both Chicago and Philadelphia are cities with some of the richest history in the nation. They have long stood as cities
that possess power and influence. Chicago is perhaps best known for things like the Chicago fire, the exposition, the struggles of the Pullman and gangsters like Al Capone. Philadelphias history
goes further back, into the birth of the nation, and thus clearly serves as a very powerful illustration or representation of our nations history. In essence, both cities serve as
different illustrations or examples of what the nation is all about, where it came from, where it moved and what it developed into. As such they are surely cities which
possess buildings and locations that should be preserved to further embrace the history of the United States. In relationship to what makes a location, or a landmark, significant enough
to be restored or at least protected we note that there are many different organizations in the counties which possess these two cities. In light of this we briefly examine
