systems generally act different and what would be a simple infection to a healthy individual becomes life threatening to an AIDS patient, or one with HIV. One such infection is
called Histplasmosis. In the following paper we describe the infection, and discuss many related facts. Histo Histoplasmosis "is an infection caused by the fungus Histoplasma capsulatum. This organism
lives in the soil of the central United States (Ohio and Mississippi river valleys), the Caribbean region, and Central and South America" (Anonymous Histoplasmosis ("Histo"), 2001; histoplasmosis.html). for the most
part it is a relatively mild illness, but also an opportunistic one, which means that it will become a more aggressive and more damaging illness with people whose systems are
weak because of one type of condition or another. As such, it is an infection which is causing a great deal of trouble in people with AIDS. In AIDS patients
it can become a serious infection. "Histoplasma organisms are found in soil in the form of microscopic particles called spores. Primary infection occurs when dust is stirred up.
Spores get into the air and are inhaled and lodge in the lungs. The severity of primary infection depends on the number of inhaled spores and strength of the immune
system. Fortunately, the organism does not spread from person to person, so you cannot catch histoplasmosis from someone else" (Anonymous Histoplasmosis ("Histo"), 2001; histoplasmosis.html). The spores are generally walled
of in the lungs and there remain inactive. "However, if the immune system weakens, spores can grow and cause disease in the lungs or elsewhere. If infection spreads throughout the
body, the condition is called disseminated histoplasmosis" (Anonymous Histoplasmosis ("Histo"), 2001; histoplasmosis.html). The infection can involve the spleen, liver, lymph nodes, bone marrow, or brain. As would be expected, where
