Tradition A religion is typically described in relation to a god. Hinduism, however, places more emphasis on mans behavior in regard to
one another than it does his relationship to his god. It can be argued that Hinduism is not a religion in the normal sense, but it is a set
of traditions and beliefs evolved over a long period of time and those traditions and beliefs are integrally connected to the culture that inspired them. The goal of Hinduism is
to escape the earthly boundaries that confine so many of us. The fact that Hinduism is not a religion in the normal sense
needs considerable explanation if it is to be understood. Hinduism revolves around the Mahabharata, the text that Hindus consider their sacred text (Smith, 2009). One component of that
text is the "Bhagavad Gita", a Sanskrit poem that delineates the deep Hindi desire to be liberated from their earthly existence. The "Bhagavad Gita" defines the relationship between
ritual and the ultimate destination of the soul. The purpose of the "Bhagavad Gita" might be viewed as the primary unifier in the Hindu religion.
