many ways. They are religions that have clearly gone their own direction, specializing in one perspective or another. The following paper examines the three, with a primary focus on Hinduism.
Historical Events In looking at Hinduism we first examine some of the historical events that assisted in the development of this religion. The Aryans, a people who slowly seemed
to make their way into India, brought with them their culture and religious traditions back in 2000 B.C. and prior to that (BBC, 2005). Where previous residents of India seemed
to worship at rivers, the Aryans worshipped at fires and slowly altered many other aspects of the religion in India (BBC, 2005). For example, "Aspects of the Aryan faith began
to be written down around 800 BCE in literature known as the Vedas. These developed from their oral and poetic traditions" and became the tradition in Hindu worship that involves,
in part, the caste system (BBC, 2005). "The Aryans...introduced the varna system (varna = estates or classes) to India, which may have contributed to the caste system we see today"
(BBC, 2005). Another aspect of the history that helped evolve Hinduism is seen when the age of the Aranyakas and Upanishads arrived and "philosophical and mystical texts dealing with
the quest for atman , the knowledge of the self" emerged (Hinduism History, 2005). This took place between 400 B.C. and 600 A.D. (Hinduism History, 2005). This was the time
period when the foundations regarding Hinduism truly took hold and gods and various forms of sacrifice faded way in the face of a desire to seek out ultimate reality and
