mover advantages. The firm was founded in 1919 by Conrad Hilton. The first hotel was the Mobley, located in Cisco, Texas (Hilton, 2012). It was not until 1925 that
the first hotel to carry the Hilton name was opened in Dallas, Texas (Hilton, 2012). In 1927 another first was seen, with Hilton opening the first hotel which had cold
running water and air conditioning in the public rooms (Hilton, 2012). The initial years saw constrained growth; it is highly likely constraint was impacted by the great recession. In 1938
Conrad Hilton started to expand outside of Texas, acquiring the Sir Francis Drake hotel located in San Francisco (Hilton, 2012). In 1943 the firm purchased the Roosevelt and the
Plaza in New York City and became the first coast to coast hotel chain in the US (Hilton, 2012). More purchases take place before the company was first listed on
the New York Stock Exchange in 1946. The growth pattern continued, in 1949 the firm started the international expansion strategy. The expansion was undertaken with the reaction of a
wholly owned subsidiary; Hilton International Co. (Hilton, 2012). Hilton expanded into Europe in 1953, with a hotel in Madrid, and in 1964 the subsidiary was spun off, but Conrad Hilton
retained his position as President. A new strategy was implemented in 1964 with the founded of a new subsidiary; Statler Hilton Inns, this is the division that was
