1. Introduction Hilton Hotels is one of the major international hotel chains, used by business and leisure travellers across the globe. The brand name has
a high recognition level and a generally positive image. To examine the company and assess how it has managed to achieve success as well as looking at its strengths and
weaknesses we need to examine the company as a whole. Staring with the background and history of the company and its structure then looking at areas such as the key
drivers for the industries and the hotel chain, the strategies adopted, issues such as marketing along with the HRM policies and culture. These elements all come together in any organisation
to help explain the results that are produced as well as indicate the way the company may compete in the future. 2. Background 2.1 Corporate Background and Structure Hilton Hotels Corp.
is argued, by the company, to be the worlds best known hotel brand name. The company, along with several subsidiary companies are involved in the management and ownership as well
as development of resorts, hotels and timeshare properties and in addition the company also offers a franchise scheme. At the end of 2004 the company had a total of
2,259 properties with a capacity of 358,000 rooms. Of these 115 of the hotels saw Hilton Hotels Corp. own outright or own an interest in, there were 7 leased, 206
hotels were managed by Holton but owned by others and 1,900 were franchised hotels (Hilton, 2005). In addition to this there are 31 timeshare properties that are either franchised or
