With the Muslims there is the historical actions concerning the Prophet Mohammed which have provided the religion with a great deal of its tradition and focus. One of the most important events of the Muslim people, as it relates to the Prophet Mohammed, comes to them through an event in history known as Hijra. In the following paper we examine Hijra and illustrate what makes it such an important part of the Muslim tradition. Hijra The history of Hijra is relatively extensive and intricate. In its most simplistic form it is known as the time "when the Prophet Mohammed (pbuh) moved from Mecca to Medina" (Anonymous Festivals in Islam, 2002; festivals.htm). We note that the "The Quran uses the word Hijra to mean moving from a bad place or state of affairs to a good one," which is a way of symbolically thinking about the move that Mohammed made many centuries ago (Anonymous Festivals in Islam, 2002; festivals.htm). It is perhaps also important to understand it nature as it relates to the entire system of time concerning the Muslim calendar, which "counts dates from the Hijra, which is why Muslim dates have the suffix A.H. (After Hijra)" (Anonymous Festivals in Islam, 2002; festivals.htm). In terms of historical reasons and actions, as they involve the move from Mecca to Medina we look at the events. The Prophet Mohammed "became the last prophet of Allah (SWT) 13 years before Hijra in Mecca at age 40" (Anonymous Salam Bar Hossein-Lanat Bar Yazid, 2002; SALAMBARHUSSEIN.htm).
