course work as part of their hiring policy. It is an idea that makes sense. After all, prospective employers are entitled to get ones credit report in making a hiring
decision, something one would think illegal. Contained in the credit report is a slew of personal financial information that is reserved mostly for creditors, but employers are allowed to take
a peek. In fact, because of the potential to hurt a companys profits, some employers are using consumer reports to weed out bad applicants (Lanphear, 2000). When those in
their twenties, thirties or forties go on job interviews they generally have a history that will be revealed through credit reports, references and former employers. When someone graduates from high
school, he or she has none of these. Does it not make sense that the employer have the ability to access school records? Although at first glance, it appears to
be a "so what" question, as privacy in the twenty-first century is compromised anyway, nothing could be further from the truth. High school transcripts are different from references and credit
reports. When one enters contracts, and accepts jobs, they know that what they do matters. Yet, when one is in high school, they are minors, unaware of the ramifications of
their actions and are likely to make mistakes. Most children at one time or another are given detention in high school. Sometimes they have the wrong teacher. Other times they
have sat next to the wrong friend. Some schools even give suspensions for missing one or more detentions for example. Tough school policies can make most students subjects to negative
remarks on their transcript. Even if a student does misbehave, and perhaps gets into a fight because someone called his mother a name when he was fourteen, should that information
