These two tracks essentially ensure that a student is making decisions regarding their future. While the core courriculum possesses certain requirements, the two other tracks, that of the University path
or the Technical path, possess the other necessary requirements for credits in order to obtain a diploma. In essence, a student must choose one or the other path when choosing
their courses and seeking their diploma. The following essay compares and contrasts the two tracks. High School Diploma: Tennessee In the state of Tennessee there are certain requirements
that all high school students must meet to even begin to develop credits towards a high school diploma. In this respect it does not matter if a student is taking
the track of a university future or a technical future. The basic core requirements consist of 14 units. The total amount of units to obtain a high school diploma is
20. The credits required of both university and technology bound students begins with 4 units of English. There are 3 units required in math, with a note stating that
"All students must complete one of the following: Algebra I, Integrated Math I, or Technical Algebra (formerly Math for Technology II)" (Tennessee Department of Education, 2006). Science requirements, which involves
3 units, states, "All students must complete one of the following: Biology, Biology for Technology, or the equivalent in an integrated science curriculum" (Tennessee Department of Education, 2006). For Social
Studies 3 units are required. There is also 1 unit required for Health, Physical Fitness, and Wellness. From there the requirements for the University track or the Technical track
