really one of the most powerful and important elements of a high school for numerous reasons. As such it is important that anyone involved in sports be guided by high
school athletic handbooks. These handbooks, which vary with each school, not only set up guidelines and regulations for the athlete in high school but they also inform the parents
about the commitment level of the high school as it sets standards. The high school athletic handbook is a very important thing for a variety of reasons. The following paper
examines the importance, need and effectiveness of the high school athletic handbook. High School Athletic Handbooks In first examining the issue of high school athletic handbooks the paper presents
some information from 4 different high schools as they relate to their particular handbooks. In looking at this one can see what is generally seen as important in offering rules
and regulations for the athlete. One high school, Chariho Regional High School, states that, "Participation in the athletic program is a privilege granted to students in return for compliance with
