(CDC) indicate that 36 percent of women who were treated for injuries in emergency departments in 2003 were injured due to spousal abuse (Yonaka, et al, 2007). Additionally, Heath and
Sturdy (2007) note that family abuse can take the form of abuse against elder members. Therefore, it can be summarized that families can be at-risk for violence in the form
of child abuse or neglect; spousal abuse or elder abuse. Assessment by nurses can provide a significant link between families at-risk for family violence and the access of these families
to the services and resources that they need. Summary of the health profile of high-risk family for violence Risk factors associated with child abuse and neglect include when the
parents suffered from moderate to severe corporal punishment as a child; past or present spousal abuse; the perception of stress within the family; moderate to severe life changes; involvement
with police; feelings on the part of the parent that he or she would like to run away; age at first birth under 20; low parental self esteem; high school
education or less; little or not prenatal care; unlisted telephone number; low income; history of unemployment; current under or unemployed; difficulty communicating with family; curses at children when disciplining; child
