25 when he became the King and he reigned for 29 years.ii2 At the beginning of his reign, "he opened the doors of the temple to the LORD and repaired them.iii3 Hezekiah never left the Lord, he depended on God for help during his troubled times. It is suspected that Hezekiah had a choleric temperament. This type of person is quick and practical and independent. He knows what he wants to do and pushes ahead. He is organized and usually a bit extroverted. The downside is that the choleric temperament can lead to a person being cruel and quick to anger. Hezekiah did not seem to exhibit the negative aspects of the choleric temperament. Evidence suggests that Hezekiah did have a choleric temperament. Consider how quickly he acted upon becoming king to bring God back into daily life by opening and cleaning the temple.iv4 He began his reign by reforming religion, including its liturgy and choral service.v5 He reinstituted Passover and invited all people in Israel and even neighboring towns.6vi This was a positive act that brought people together and that increased his own credibility as a caring and faithful king. He was cautious about getting into conflicts. His enemies seemed to want him to engage in a conflict with them but he avoided that. He could foresee that getting into a serious argument with his enemies would lead to unnecessary conflict that could erupt in war. Genung wrote Hezekiah believed in the prophets attitude of being confident and quiet and "of steadfast trust in Yahweh alone, and of abstinence from revolt and entangling alliances with foreign powers."vii7 Hezekiah had foresight and was in close interactions with the prophet Isaiah.
