in love with Dona Sol (Bates). Unique Factor: The conflicts between the male characters in trying to wind the lovely Dona Sol. Protagonist and Antagonist: Protagonist: Hermani. Antagonist:
Ruy Gomez. Opening Stasis: Dona Sol, a young noblewoman, is living at the court of the fictional Don Carlos, King of Spain, and engaged to her uncle, a man
much older than herself, Don Ruy Gomez de Silva, but Dona Sol is in love with a presumed bandit, Hermani. Intrusion: Don Carlos (the king) comes to Dona Sols
room in order to seduce her. Hermani (her true love) arrives and the two are about to duel when Don Ruy Gomez interrupts and demands to know why both men
are in his fiances bedchamber. Each man gives the other a plausible excuse for their presence (Hernani). Actions: Don Carlos finds out about a midnight meeting between Dona
Sol and Hermani and plans to use this as an opportunity to abduct the lady. Hermani learns of this plan and has his men surround the kings guards. The king
learns from this encounter that Hermani is a bandit and not a nobleman and refuses to duel with him. Hermani allows the king to go free (Hernani). In Act III,
Hermani comes to the wedding of Ruy Gomez and Dona Sol and confronts her concerning her agreement to marry. He admits to Ruy Gomez that he is a criminal and
being pursued by the king. When the king arrives, Ruy Gomez hides Hermani, refusing to surrender him to the king, while citing laws of hospitality (Hernani). While the king and
