With that in mind the following paper examines the general legends about Heracles, also known as Hercules in Roman legends, and Jason, often know by the legends of Jason and the Argonauts. The paper compares and contrasts the two heroes, as well as the general heroes of the stories, and their particular qualities and the lessons in their stories. Heracles and Jason It should perhaps first be noted that there are, as mentioned, many tales, but there are also many tales that connect Heracles and Jason both to the story of the Argonauts and the Golden Fleece. Some stories have Heracles as the hero and others with Jason as the hero. There are stories involving Heracles wherein Jason actually is not even as important as other heroes in the story of the Golden Fleece and the Argonauts. Other figures, who are not necessarily truly defined in any research on the topic, are Castor and Polydeuces (the Dioscuri), Calais and Zethes (the Boreads), Tiphus, Nestor, Ancaeus and Orpheus" (In2Greece, 2009). Whatever their stories, individually, it seems that all the heroes, including Jason and Heracles, can ultimately be lumped together in terms of their lessons and their heroic challenges. For example, both Jason and Heracles are sent, in various stories, on journeys wherein they must retrieve items in order to claim what is rightfully theirs. They are both connected to women and find themselves immersed in drama wherein their children are killed.
