and the cost of the treatment. This paper will examine the issues faced by patients who need this type of intervention and is divided into five sections: a statement
of the problem; a brief background section; a literature review; the implications for the nursing profession; and a conclusion. In a paper such as this, its probably best
that the student start with the literature review. It will comprise most of the paper and provide the basic facts the student needs to discuss the other issues under
consideration. The student also needs to end the introductory section with a thesis statement, such as: This paper will consider the effectiveness of changing the frequency of
hemodialysis treatments from the normal three times a week schedule to other timeframes. Statement of the Problem Hemodialysis is used in the treatment of end stage renal disease (ESRD),
which is described as a "slow, progressive loss of kidney function caused by inherited disordered, prolonged medical conditions such as diabetes and hypertension, or the long-term use of certain medications"

(Freitas, 2002). However, studies have indicated that home hemodialysis, done on a daily basis, can improve patient well-being (Freitas, 2002). What we want to do now is examine
the literature that deals with this relatively new technique and what implications the implementation may have for the nursing profession. We also have to consider the problems associated with the
