Essay / Research Paper Abstract
5 pages in length. As we explore the impact of Ernest Hemingway's "Soldier's Home" upon the literary world, it is important to take into account the critical impressions associated with the story in order to gain a significantly better understanding of just how intricately related Harold Krebs' problems were truly associated with his ultimate return from war. Our initial impression is that he has been cheated out of the chance to revel in the glory of being a war veteran, inasmuch as he returns home months and months after the initial veterans without anything new to say that the others have not already talked about ad nauseum. This disinterested reaction he receives from the townspeople – his parents included – compels Krebs to fabricate nearly his entire existence in order to get through what he calls a life of complications. Written in first person. Bibliography lists 4 sources.

does not reflect the inner composition of those who truly had reason to worry about assimilating back into society. We find that the "Timeless Hemingway" Web site provides enlightened
insight into Krebs actual character, which is undisciplined, untruthful and unconcerned about how he relates to others. Based upon this interpretation, we can readily see how this outlook is
what has cast Krebs into the sinking hole from which he only somewhat struggles to get free; rather, he is quite content to wallow in his own self-pity. "Does
Krebs practice intense self-discipline? He sleeps late, reads, eats, and sits on his front porch watching the girls walk by. If anything, he seems disciplined to do nothing significant
with his life. Ironically, he has been cast into a role of passive observer rather than the active participant he seemed to be in heading off to assist in
