III Conclusion Introduction Ernest Hemingway has attained the status of a legend, but his status hasnt prevented critics and scholars from scrutinizing his work
often with unflattering results. His reportorial style, his heavy use of material that is clearly autobiographical, and his often rather juvenile handling of mature relationships are often mentioned by critics
who feel he has been over-praised. This paper discusses Hemingways handling of male-female relationships and reaction to those depictions. Discussion Its a clich? that every writers life greatly informs his
work. While a writer may not write about himself directly, the things he has experienced, his beliefs, his philosophical position, his political leanings, his relationships-all of these things go to
shape the person he is, and will of necessity impact his writing. Hemingway, perhaps more than most, has to face the charge of writing autobiographies loosely disguised as fiction.
While this is clearly untrue, Hemingways stories "so often advert to specific events that demonstrably mirror his own life that the temptation to biographical interpretation is well nigh irresistible" (Tuttleton).
Hemingways protagonists often suffer war wounds similar to his; "excoriate the mother" as he did; or "reflect contemptuously on the suicide of the father" (Tuttleton). Sometimes Hemingway doesnt even bother
to change the name of the person to a fictional one (Tuttleton). For instance, in A Farewell to Arms, Frederic is an ambulance driver who is wounded and falls in
