20th century. His works seemed to reflect the society and the changes that were occurring in the world, and in American society, as it involved WWI and that particular time
in American history. One of his most powerful, and renowned works, is "A Farewell to Arms." The following paper first presents a short look at the life of Hemingway and
then summarizes "A Farewell to Arms" and the style used in that novel. The last section of the essay discusses the style that was Hemingways. Hemingway
"Ernest Hemingway was born in Oak Park, Illinois, on July 21, 1899" (Nagel). When he was 17 years of age he began his career as a
writer, working in Kansas as a newspaper writer (Nobelprize.org). When WWI began, and the United States became involved he joined up, volunteering and engaging in driving ambulances (Nobelprize.org). "Serving at
the front, he was wounded, was decorated by the Italian Government, and spent considerable time in hospitals. After his return to the United States, he became a reporter for Canadian
and American newspapers and was soon sent back to Europe to cover such events as the Greek Revolution" (Nobelprize.org). Throughout his life he traveled and wrote, basing most of his
work around the reality of war, both writing of war and the times after a way. He was a drinker, a fisherman, an adventurer and a man who apparently had
many different women in his life. Hemingways life ended in 1961 (Nobelprize.org). He died from "a suicide interpreted as the culmination of his belief in taking responsibility for his own
