B. Bryan Babcock for the Paperstore, Inc., April 2001 To the student: for this photographer there are some relatively "tame" portraits attached. Decide if you want them as
an addendum or to move into the text. Also there is some gender orientation in the writing of this sample paper; if you are female, you are fine. If
male, you will have to remember when "your sister," tried to walk in stiletto heels. Introduction This discussion will look at some of the rather "tame" later work of Helmut
Newton (1920 - ), and consider those photos in relationship to other art forms, particularly that of drawing. Stilettos Women have been considered Newtons subject of
choice for decades. He presents them as glamorous, strident, and powerful, and almost always in stiletto heels. An example, which I have not included was "domestic nude."

nude. She wears no apron, and looks as though someone has just asked her to cook something that splatters. We have stilettos on a woman being mounted by a
swan; stilettos on a nude on a diving board, stilettos in the kitchen, and stilettos at the seashore. I was surprised that the surgical splint on one leg of
the nude was not an issue. The "swan mounting," at least had some mythic references. But the stilettos started becoming an issue for me, because they are so
painful to wear, and indicated nor only a dated sense of female beauty , but also a male perceived sense of beauty. Perhaps I have historic stiletto-phobia.
