healthcare coverage from one employer to another, this also increases the likelihood that people will be forced to drop coverage. Americans with preexisting medical conditions and the elderly are
also oftentimes unable to secure healthcare they can afford. Shockingly, the United States is the only advanced world nation that does not offer a healthcare package to its citizens,
and therefore has the highest rates of underinsured or uninsured people that are too often forced to forego treatment because of high costs (Krugman, 2007). In the presidential campaigns
of 2008, healthcare was an important priority for both the public and the candidates as Democrat Barack Obama and Republican John McCain pitched very different plans to prospective voters. Obamas
healthcare plan focuses on expanding coverage to Americans that are presently uninsured through employer-based plans that must either pay or play (Ibanga, 2008). His proposed plan will be available
to all company employees and the self-employed alike, with eligibility that is guaranteed and with benefits similar to that of the government plan that has been in place for members
