Al-Touby (2011) added Results that would overlay the Venn Diagram, which would suggest that all of the components in the Venn are needed for patient outcomes/results. Each component is a construct because it is a set of complex ideas. Transformational leadership has been shown to be effective in many settings. Transformational leaders share certain characteristics, like charisma, vision, and passion. The sub-dimensions of transformational leadership can be compared to the components in the Venn diagram, which reflects the historical and traditional leadership model in health care organizations. Most of the sub-dimensions in transformational leadership are also a construct because they are not easily measured. In both cases, they are complex sets of ideas and ideals. For example, how do you measure passion? The components in the traditional model are more easily measured. You can determine how much time is spent on the task, how much on team development, and how much on each member of the team. However, that only offers one type of measure - time. We need to be able to measure enthusiasm, motivation, interest, and job satisfaction. Transformational leadership can provide an overall framework for effective leadership practices.
