markets. Demographics will therefore includes, but is not limited to elements such as age, gender, income educational, occupational group, socio-economic group and ethnic group. Where there are changes the
healthcare needs may change. Small changes in different groups ,ay not result in an overall change, but changes in the overall make up of the groups will result in healthcare
needing to meet different demands either in totality or by adjusting the levels of provision. By looking at some examples we can appreciate the impact of changing demographics. There
life expectancy is increasing due to medical science and also better quality lifestyles and knowledge. The increasing number of older people sees the increase of demand that are specifically associated
with an aging population and the vulnerabilities that are associated with age. As an individual gets older they are mote likely to contract a number of illnesses. This means the
health service needs firstly to provide the healthcare for recover and also look to increasing the provision for preventative measures. For example, influenza can pose a severe health risk for
older members of a community. This means that not only has there been the providing of care for the illness, there has also been a national program of immunisation to
help prevent those over the age of 65 getting flu. Other illnesses and conditions increasing occurrence as age progresses, such as heart disease, cancer and arthritis. In addition body parts
