the wealthiest countries boast citizens with the best health and third world nations suffer as a result of poor health. This is partially due to the fact that wealthy people
have access to better health care systems, but lifestyle and quality food products have a lot to do with it as well. Babies in third world countries lack proper nourishment
and as a result, there is a higher infant mortality rate in underdeveloped countries. Health promotion is a part of a paradigm that results in exceptional health. In the United
States for example, there are campaigns designed to eradicate illicit drugs and to assure that children are covered by health insurance. There are campaigns to ward off depression and identify
people with mental health conditions. There is attention to mass inoculation and concern when there is a threat of a deadly flu or disease. The promotion of good health is
something that is aligned with the concept of health. First, what is health and how does it differ as a concept from health promotion? II. The Definitions of
Health and Health Promotion Health is defined as being "a state of total mental, physical and social well-being, and not merely the absence of disease and infirmity" ("Definitions of
Health and Fitness," 2006). Health promotion, on the other hand, " is the combination of educational and environmental supports for actions and conditions of living conducive to health" (Green, 1990,
p.313). In other words, the former is a state of being and the latter is the promotion of that healthy state. Both concepts are aligned and the idea of good
